TUSTIN – Former NFL running back and Tustin High football star DeShaun Foster stood on the field where he starred in the late 1990's and shook his head with a smile.
He had just seen his mom bat down passes and take handoffs wearing the same No. 26 on her jersey that he used to wear on the same Northrop Field, under the same Friday night lights.
"This is just kind of crazy," he said. "I played so many games here. My mom — this is her first."
Cheryl Foster had watched DeShaun play on that field more than 50 times, sitting in the top row of the bleachers to get the best view. Friday, she showed her son some moves, playing defensive back and taking handoffs.
She led a team of NFL mothers to a 14-0 victory over the mothers of NBA and WNBA players in a charity flag football game. While the event, which partnered with a Saturday night gala at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach, is hoping to raise $40,000 for Talk About Curing Autism and Orange County at-risk youth, the NFL mom's had something else in mind — revenge.
